NY Times Review: Paper, a Ballet Knitted From Abstractions

What a treat to get to play this much Stravinsky--five times in one week! It was also a bonus to be conducted by Jayce Ogren, a fellow St. Olaf College graduate!

Part of the White Light Festival, the program comprises three works by Stravinsky, played by the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Each had once been performed by Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes. For the first, the four-minute “Fireworks,” Mr. Twist borrows the 1917 Ballets Russes designs of the Italian Futurist Giacomo Balla. Huge cutouts of Balla’s shapes shift around in dramatically changing light, manipulated by hidden puppeteers.
